Swansea Community Boat Trust
Swansea Community Boat Trust (SCBT) – was established in 2006 by a small group of like minded individuals who had the idea of running boat trips along the River Tawe for the local community to enjoy whilst discovering Swansea’s heritage.
It wasn’t until 16th of December 2010 that the first community boat was purchased, called ‘The Black Prince’. It proved to be a great success, and with the addition of the wheelchair lift, enabled us to accommodate people of all abilities. The Black Prince was operational until it was sold in September 2013 and carried nearly 15,000 passengers along the ever changing Tawe river. With ever increasing maintenance requirements, costs and sailing cancellations due to the flat bottomed design of the boat, SCBT took the decision to sell the Black Prince and commission a new boat to be built.
Copper Jack was commissioned in 2013 by Swansea Community Boat Trust. Construction of the boat was undertaken by Colecraft Engineering, an established builder of boats based in Stratford-upon-Avon. Copper jack was launched on the River Tawe in May 2014 and has been in operation since.
