FAQ - Hafod Copperworks Pontoon
What is the Hafod Copperworks Pontoon?
Enhanced River Access with New Pontoon at Hafod Morfa Copperworks
A significant improvement to river access was realized in 2023 with the installation of a new pontoon on the River Tawe, located beside the historic Hafod Morfa Copperworks in Landore.
This valuable infrastructure project was made possible through funding from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (a collaboration between the European Union and Welsh Government) and the Welsh Government’s Small Scale Coastal Infrastructure Scheme.
The new pontoon and quayside are equipped with comprehensive safety features, including clear signage, wall ladders, and readily accessible life buoys. For controlled access, lockable gates are in place for key holders, and Swansea Council’s experienced Swansea Marina team will manage and maintain the facility.
The Swansea Community Boat Trust and their boat, Copper Jack, are delighted to have been granted privileged access to this enhanced resource, further enabling their activities on the River Tawe.
Private Charters to the pontoon (one way)
We’re excited to announce a new addition to our popular Private Charters: a relaxing one-way cruise from our home mooring in Swansea Marina to the Hafod Copperworks Pontoon (near Parc Tawe), where you can conveniently disembark.
Understanding our one-way service: As Swansea Community Boat Trust, a volunteer-run charity with our boat Copper Jack, our priority is to provide the best possible experience within our current volunteer capacity. Due to this, we can currently operate a limited number of sailings daily. Offering return trips would mean either running multiple sailings in a day or asking our valued volunteers to wait, possibly for several hours, while you enjoy local attractions like Penderyn and the Swansea.com Stadium.
For now, we’re focusing on delivering enjoyable one-way journeys to the pontoon. We will continuously evaluate the demand for return trips and look forward to potentially expanding our offerings in the future. Please refer to our other FAQs for details on planning your return journey.
